You’ve Had Your Fun – Now It’s Time to Get Serious About Your Financial Future

If you're in your 40s, there's a good chance you've ticked off a few major life goals already.

You've built a career, maybe started raising a family, enjoyed the spoils of travel (Contiki Tours, anyone?), upgraded the house, driven the nice car, and settled into one of your city’s better suburbs. Life’s been full—and busy.

But here's the truth bomb most people don’t like to hear in their 40s:

👉 You’ve likely hit your peak earning years.
👉 Retirement is creeping up faster than you think.
👉 And you may not have enough set aside to live comfortably for another 25-30 years once you stop working.

Let’s Talk Numbers (The Scary, But Necessary Part)

If you plan to retire around 65—and many do—what’s your plan for funding life until your late 80s or even 90s? Because that’s where life expectancy is heading. That’s 25–30 years of needing income without a regular income hitting your bank account.

Think about how much money you've spent from age 18 until now.  Let’s say on average you earned modestly $45,000 every year between 18 and today (and you are currently 45 years old). That’s over $1.2million dollars gross.

How much of that did you save? If you are going to live to 90, that’s another 45 years!

Do you honestly think your superannuation will cover another 30 years of living?

For most Australians, the answer is a resounding no. Especially if you've taken time out of the workforce to raise kids, work part-time, or focus on family. Super balances for many in their 40s are far below what’s needed to generate a liveable retirement income.

And here's the kicker—if you're not actively building wealth outside of your super, you're leaving your future self exposed.

The Next 10 Years Are Critical

The truth is, these next 10 years are your golden window.

This is when:

  • Your income is (probably) at its highest and you can afford to redirect some of your cashflow towards investment.
  • Your kids might be getting more independent.
  • You can afford to think long-term.

This is your chance to lay down the foundations of wealth that will carry you through retirement.

We're not talking about get-rich-quick schemes or risky plays. We’re talking smart, sustainable wealth building, through property, that gives you options later in life—options like working less, travelling more, helping your kids, or simply not stressing about money.

It's Not Too Late, But You Need to Act Now

If you’re feeling behind, you’re not alone. Most people don’t realise the shortfall until they’re well into their 50s or even 60s. They too can definitely take action, but in your 40’s you actually have more time to reach your goals (or make those goals even bigger!)
